It is raining absolute barrels here right now and for the last 5 minutes. While I, personally, am delighted about it, (Oh my garden is in heaven) I am worried about the people near the burn zone. Did you see the flood damage from yesterday? This can't help.

Have to say my chickens aren't too excited either, but I bet they're glad I put the tarp down over their very large screened front yesterday.

We went out and caught crayfish yesterday morning and had Cajun Boil for dinner last night. Her are a few photos.





While we were sorting crayfish, the girls were sneaking a few out of the bucket. Those sneaky girls...

Wow, that's a lot of crayfish. I don't have a boat so I fished from shore, but I caught my share, ONE at a time lmao....course I wasn't fishing for crayfish, don't it figure.

I think my girls are practicing squeezing their butts together so as not to release that prized first egg.

The lake where we have been fishing is part of my old stomping grounds. While we were leaving the other night, I noticed that the ditch-rider had closed the gate to the irrigation ditch that drains out of the lake. The ditch runs right behind my folk's house in south Loveland...

I have never caught that many crayfish at one time....these were consistently the largest crayfish that I have ever caught.

I guess I'm in the $1,200-1,300 camp. It's awesome, but the new owner is going to have a heck of a time moving it if it doesn't break down into "parts"... thinking gates, fences, regular truck or trailer... 12' is pretty long. Try craigslist just to see if there are any bites. Just because somone shows interest doesn't mean you gave to sell... just test the waters.

I've already thought of that Mo. I actually thought of it PRIOR to building. Being that I'm in the demolition industry I've got a few contacts. Have you ever seen how they get hottubs into the backyards of landlocked homes? A lot of time they fly them in using a boom truck. I'll have to double check with my guy but I think the same could be done for this one. I can't imagine that it would be over the trucks limit yet. Those guys will pick it out of my yard and place it on a flat bed trailer of mine. Voila

Ok I need some help here. I am looking for an organic feed (corn free, soy free, no GMO) for my chicks. They have been on Nutrena (my mom bought it for them when she was chick sitting) but the bag is almost empty. I looked at the organic feed from Denver Urban Homesteading but I was not to impressed with the ingredients and saw a post from a while back saying it was not well liked. I found someone up north that has feed and I am wondering if anyone has bought feed from them, High Altitude Organics? I called Golden Mills and they said they had an organic feed from Nutrena but their website does not say anything about organic feed, they actually state that it is not organic. Confused! I also saw a listing on craigslist for organic feed in Black Forest. Anyone tried any of these or have recommendations?

I use High Altitude Organics and LOVE it! I will not use any other chicken feed! I did buy organic from Westside Feed like Kmatt suggested but hated it. It was so nasty. 85% corn, smelled bad (not spoiled just not good), looked bad. I couldn't wait to be rid of it! The High Altitude Organic stuff is all seeds and is easily spilled/wasted, but we made a pipe feeder that really cut down on that! The couple that run/own High Altitude Organics are super nice and sell a lot of other stuff, too. We bought a big bag of organic sunflower seeds the girls just absolutely LOVE and you can plant them in the garden, too. They sell food grade DE (as well as flour and organic meat products). We've been out to their farm. They have over 120 chickens; pigs and horses, too! Last time I bought from them the chick starter (the most expensive stuff) was .80 cents a pound. Layer feed is pretty well priced around .50 cents a pound (tests around 17% protein). Slightly more expensive than the stuff you buy at feed stores but totally worth it!

I would load it on my 18ft trailer!! That would be the way to go!! But you would think that anyone with a large enough trailer to haul it....would already have what they need.
