Colorado

AHEM, Do I have everyone's attention? Well, do I? Let me slightly obsess over what I found this morning. My girls have a small area under the house (which is under my bedroom). I have NEVER heard any noise from inside the house until this morning. All of a sudden I'm hearing squawking and just general unrest from outside. So, thinking PREDATOR!!!! I go running outside at 6:30 am (am I glad there are no fashion police around here). I get outside, and nothing.......everyone just kinda wandering around looking, ummmmmmm, innocent. Not to be fooled by their No, It wasn't me looks (and thinking, ok, not predator, maybe EGG Song!!) I decide to check out the coop. Well, no egg.......BUT

Have had the nests in for about 4 weeks, and never a sign that the girls even see them. Look what I found (NO, not an egg, a few golf balls, but no egg).

But I found this:

And for those of you who need reading glasses:

I'm starting a pool. Who can come closest to how many times I look in there before I actually find an egg. Whoever comes closest gets to see a picture of my first egg. OK, OK, I'll share the pic with everyone, but I'm guessing every hour on the hour for 24 hours.

On a side note, for those of you who haven't bought oyster shell before. I went to BigR to pick some up, thinking probably a 3 lb bag, probably $5.00, since I should only have to put out the supplement until all my girls are laying, maybe 5 - 6 more weeks. Well, the only bag they had must weigh 10-15 lbs and was $16.00.

Sheesh what's wrong with my puter. LOL I tried to post this and it wouldn't change screens, just kept coming back to the 'Reply' screen So I pushed the button again......and again.........I guess it posted every time.

I'll use this to tell ya I checked the Oyster Shell bag (Don't ever ask me to estimate weight) and it weighs 50 pounds. And it's a LITTLE bag, about the size of a 10lb bag of potatoes.

And the nest digger, I'm 95% sure is the lovely girl in my avatar.

Good morning Colorado!
Anyone out there have a Narragansett hen they would like to sell, or possibly trade for a Narragansett tom? He's about 2 years old and a very gentle bird. I'm looking for a hen about a year old as a mate for my other tom.
I have a pair, but they are both only 2 1/2 months old. I love my Narragansetts!

I can't tell from the picture... is that a poop ball? Some of my hens lays the hugest poop balls imagineable.

I save my eggs, put them in the oven when I make dinner in a piece of tin foil and then take them out, crush them up and feed them back to them. They love them. I read someplace that there is over 1000mg per tsp of egg shell. Not sure if that is right or not.

We also feed back the egg shells. We mix them in with oyster shell so the girls have a choice.
