Does anyone know if the Big R in Falcon has DE? Gotta make a run for Sweet PDZ, and it would be nice if I could pick up some DE at the same time.
Thanks

Yep I can confirm this - it comes in a 5-gallon bucket and is near the horse stuff if I remember correctly. It's not specifically labelled food grade, but it has instructions on how much to add to food so I think it's implied. I've used it on my girls with no problems so far.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on my egg song the other day. We haven't heard it since then but we are also usually at work by the time she did it before. And CONGRATULATIONS Sharon that is so exciting to see an egg! :celebrate

Hey! I'm all for a round up! I could get some orders together ..keep everything at my place and when Ya'll need to do a pick-up we could set up a meet!! I found a local farmer that sells corn at 60% less than the feed mill. (For my pigs) I'm still looking to get cheaper chicken feed too.

And I have a 1 ton!! So I can haul a bunch. Ya'll let me know what you use and I'll check on some bulk pricing if it's available.

In fact... I'll start: Just copy and paste................

I use 16% crumbles.....Joe

They told me they only go as high as 16%, though I woul like to be at 18% if I could. I have been using 16%. I guess the deciding factor would be their definitioin of "bulk pricing"

I would also like to find a better price for straw. Big R up here is charging about $7 per bale. Light bales too. Not the heavy well-baled ones I used to haul and stack.....

I looked at Big R this weekend for 18% and the only feed they had in 18% was the pellets. I'm trying to keep my feed the same so that's why I use 16%. I haven't found 18% "crumbles anywhere yet.

I feel for ya' there. I'm still looking myself. I have found hay @ $9.00 a bail around here...but straw is not as available in my area. I have been putting hay in the nesting boxes along with the pine chips. The girls seem to like it.

I just recently switched my girls to 16% layer, and figured they wouldn't have a problem with pellets... Whoops. They totally hate them. So I've had to use my blender to break them down. Thankfully I only bought two bags. I've also been trying to keep the protein level up a bit to keep the feather pecking at bay, so my girls get the 16% mixed with 20%. It seems to be working out ok, but I will be so glad when its time to go buy more food.

I use the all flock feed (18%) for my chickens/ducks and do supplement with the higher showbird formula (22%) because of the feather loss. I was getting ready to buy a bulk bundle myself shortly before feed prices go up shortly due to the drought/dust bowl and loss of the corn crop, soon to be soy and then wheat. I'm looking at buying within the next week.

With my feather issues, they say that sometimes pellets cause the birds to hen peck more. I'd prefer the pellets. I still have 3 bags of the pellets and use them 1/3 less than I normally would.

We tried pellets with our girls too and they went on a two week hunger strike. We started putting them through the blender after the first week. Still no dice. Crumble only now. Who knew hens could be so picky.

The 18% and 20% are also pellets, correct?

The above reasons ...... is why I only use crumbles.....my new girls wouldn't eat either!!
I do try to change up between Big R and the feed mill, but price is getting up there with all the birds I have now!!

So if y'all want me to do some checking, let me know....the DW is going to town again today, I can have her ask.

Joe
