Yes, chicken math has bit me hard. It's gonna get me again next spring, I just know it. I have 17 egg layers right now, yesterday for the first time we got a dozen eggs in one day. I have no idea what I'm going to do with all these eggs if they ever stop selling at my husbands work, but I want more chickens in the spring. I love the wide variety I have now, and there's a few more that I would like to get. Like Hamburgs, just so I can call them Hamburgers.

Thank goodness we're building another coop. I'm going to plan for the number I have, plus what I want, plus at least 10 more.

I did some good chicken math justification yesterday. Re-homed two boys and replaced them with one pullet. My flock actually decreased so now I have a happy family of 5. Here is a pic of the new girl Hattie, what a sweetie! And the new addition on the run + a swing/perch.

I have resisted Chicken math. Chicken math is bad, chicken math is bad, repeated many times each day, preferably in a chanting mode..... Does that include turkeys?

Got both sons committed to helping tomorrow morning, and a friend coming over as well. We should have these trusses installed by 10AM, before it gets warm!

:yuckyuck Finally got those boys into action eh?

Babies, we have babies! I didn't realize how much I've been missing having babies. They're in the dining room until the garage has been readied. I've been slacking. Doh!

I love when they're this little and they shake their little butts to poo. There are 3 cornish rocks (wanted to see how they do) and 24 black broilers from Ideal. One little chickie was DOA. :( And there is one more itty bitty that I'm worried about, but everybody else is looking great.

Look at those little fluffballs! They are so cute! How long are you going to raise them for? I watched some videos I took of our girls from the first week we had them and it made me get teary-eyed. I miss having chickies too :hit

So I've been going over to Mo's to get my fluff fix :jumpy

I will be going to Fountain either today or tomorrow so will drop by your house. This time, I won't leave my phone at home so I can let you know i'm enroute. I still don't know what I ever did when I didn't have a cell phone and email.

Chicken math is hard with straight run though. I have 23 hens and 15 chicks running around too young to know what they are. I suspect half of them will be roos. I don't quite count banty hens as a full hen so that makes the count a little tougher too. I do know that right now, I have 2 cuckoo marans roos, with another suspected one and a black copper marans roo. I am assuming that over half of the chicks are males so I should be under the 35 chicken limit I placed on myself. I still have more building to do as I am opening up my garage now on the real hot days and one can imagine what a nightmare i have sweeping that up once a week. But like everything else, I learn by the experience of doing and for that, I can only thank my Gd.

Anyone out in the Falcon area with a truck to help me get some mulch in black forest?

The Cornish Rocks, probably 7-8 weeks. The black ones will go until they're big enough which is hopefully just a week or two longer than the CRs. I do plan to withdraw food at night when they're a little older so they don't grow so fast that they have problems.
