Colorado

I make my own yogurt and candles and soap and although my cheese really, really sucks...have done that. I have an old sour dough culture and can do wine and beer, but also not great at it as I don't do it near enough to get at it. I also make socks in the winter...which I am addicted to doing when the days are short and nights are long.

the pullets have settled in for night and i am looking forward to the day when those two roos that grandma r gave me are fat enough to get rid of. I already know they are going to be territorial little sh!ts.

I also have a grain mill if anyone ever had an interest in grinding your own flour.

Just got back from the fair. There were some beautiful animals there. I was drooling over the banty cochins for a bit. Really liked the white and the barred. Drooled over the d'uccles too.

Who am I kidding? I think I left puddles all over that barn...

Oh my goodness those tiny little crows from the banty roosters!

We spent at least an hour in the chicken barn. All the Americaunas looked like my Sweetie, I decided someday I want a Cochin rooster for my girls because they are just TOO fluffy, and fell in love with a couple hens. I love the partridge rocks, which is a color pattern I didn't know existed for that breed. I also LOVED the barred Cochin bantams, and if that friendly inquisitive one (second from the left) hadn't already been sold she'd be on my lap right now. They are the most darling little things and the barred foot feathers make me swoon.

I also almost walked out with a pullet from the "petting zoo" area as we were leaving. There was a tiny black frizzle Cochin bantam with some head feathers plucked out. She was definitely getting picked on and was afraid to be picked up, but once I had her she just nestled down in my arms and got cozy. Maybe she liked being away from the others? She had to weigh less than a pound and was super frizzly (if that is a word) and soft. My boyfriend saw my face and just said "put down the chicken" before I could even ask to see who I could buy her from! It's like he knows me or something...

All in all totally worth the drive out there and I'm afraid of what I might do at the state fair next month. :love

LOL. We threatened our adult sons with that...told them, "you get what you pay for....."

I want to make my own cheese. One project at a time though.

Mayah stopped by and took the last of the pullets in the go away pen. Still have lots of cockerels if anyone wants some......

Very cool. My wife makes her own yogurt. We have yet to try a cheese. I made Mozzarella in culinary school, but that seems forever ago.
Hope that place takes off... I think their timing is right on.

I am the master of make your own projects. I have made two types of cheese, root beer, Hard Cider, many different cooking projects and some that I don't even remember anymore.. Learning how to knit right now, made a scarf working on another. The Hard Cider was my favorite project even if it was a long one best tasting and easiest to clean up, cheese was like glue.

Bed time??? What is that?

duck and turkey eggs are absolutely the most wonderful to bake with. I can't explain the difference perse but its there... things just seem to come together better with duck eggs. awesome score! A huge batch of brownies sounds like a great celebratory snack. :)

I could use some pointers on cheese. My sour cream is very awesome but my cottage cheese has never worked right for me. I can make mozzarella but it doesn't turn out the best. I have calcium chloride in my fridge just in case. What type of cheeses? If you get a sock loom, I can show you in an hour or so how to do the steps you need for homemade socks.

Above are the socks I made for my little girl last winter. I'd also be willing to do a soap class at my house too. I won't be able to do it for a month or so as I just have too many puppies brooding right now.

They still aren't completely litter trained so still find myself picking up crap far too much than I'd like but are much better than not trying at all. I woke up today and only had one poopoo accident and 2 weewee ones. That's a huge improvement from where it was when I started.

Mom and Dad with the pups playing. The only one we are keeping is the mostly grey puppy with blue eyes...although there are 3 that are so incredible intelligent and would rather keep one of them. But my son wants the grey one.
