Momato is that the BA that crowed?

Well, just thought I'd tell you guys goodnight. Nothing going on here much, cept some stoopid old woman decided it would be a good idea to start a batch of Bread and Butter Pickles at 9:00 last night. I think I finally finished about 5:30 this morning. Caught 3 hours sleep and then started in with the peaches.

A woman's work is never done.......................

I'm going to bed. CY'all later

Roo crowed for the first time this morning! :( It was a funny strangled sound but undeniably a crow! Time for him to go. My 7 year old cried even though they all knew this was coming! *sigh* Sad day.

Side note....I put the rooster you "gave me":p on craigslist and had 5 takers with in a day. None of which intended to eat him...or so they said;)

Gardendufus, yes, it's the BA who crowed.

Coloradogal, thanks for the number but Fountain is too far from northern Colorado! I appreciate it, though!

So, I posted Roo on Craigslist today and got a call tonight from someone who wants him tomorrow. Now, how I do know he's going to a good home and not to cock fighting or torture or something? I'd almost rather butcher him just so I know he isn't treated poorly by whoever takes him. But he's too small to be good for meat at this age.....

Nobody expressed interest in my #17 cockerel, so I am attempting to arrange a trade with a Dominique breeder near Hatchliss CO, my two extra cockerels for two of her extra pullets..... We'll see where that goes. If it doesn't come together, I will put them up on Craigs list.

I am going to be listing my three big chicks in another two weeks. Two are defiantly Roos. Blondie's comb has a distinctly red tint and is catching up to her red bro's in size. Do you have any recommendations on rehoming to screen for people who will just name them Stewie and BBQ?

Has anyone had luck with hostas? Our flower garden in the back has been completely dug up by the chickens, which is fine. It went from being a full sun area to a full shade due to the trees growing. I know hostas love the shade, but i haven't seen many here (had them in MN) and i'm not sure if the chickens will eat them on me.

If those aren't a good one, are there any suggestions for a good full shade plant that the chickens don't like?
