Once I let my Sussex Sisters out Saturday for a short time and saw they were fine, I suddenly realized I should no longer coddle them, and they spent most of Sunday with access to the yard, and the last two evenings they have had out time with the two older girls. They are happy as little (okay, big) spotted larks, and I am immersed in the pure joy of seeing those girls spread across the back lawn, scratching through garden beds, and chasing little moths. Lord, I have missed having chickens in the yard for the last ten years, and I am filled with gratitude at the simple pleasure they provide.

That is great news about Beth, hears hopping that is the end of your problems.

I got a picture from my husband at work today, he moved an old bag of dirt to find it was bad but filled with worms. He sent me a picture of Menchi standing on a pile of worms, his comment "You have the craziest chickens ever. They step on worms rather then eat them"

Spoiled brats, it is meal worm or better for them. They won't give earth worms the time of day.

We will be doing some chicken processing this Saturday morning, starting at about 7 AM. #11 will be one of the ones going. I have also been requested to harvest his hackle feathers for a friend whop ties fishing flys. For payment, he will make me a few.

Weird, it posted before I was done....
So in order to process some this Saturday, I have to finish and get the plucker mounted, finish the traffic cone cones, and fix a hole in my large pot for scalding. Then get everything in place for a smooth operation. Remember, I have OCPD....Obsessive Compulsive Planning Disorder.........

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers. We also hope that we get a reprieve from issues for a while. While we understand the direction this will ulimately take, we are also thankful for each day we have together. Beth is SO looking forward to going out for our anniversary next Friday. Thanks everybody!

I think I'll be processing some this weekend as well. If he would like some black, red or brown feathers I can mail them for the same deal you're getting. If he's interested, pm me.

I'll ask him. He has been hounding me for hackle feathers ever since he found out I had Dominiques. Apparently they are in demand in the Fly tieing world.......

We are processing as well this weekend. Red broilers. When the hair feathers became all the rage, the fly tie guys lost out to bigger money. Our pine squirrels really love molting time with the feathers from the egg layers though. Talk about a downy nest!
