Once I let my Sussex Sisters out Saturday for a short time and saw they were fine, I suddenly realized I should no longer coddle them, and they spent most of Sunday with access to the yard, and the last two evenings they have had out time with the two older girls. They are happy as little (okay, big) spotted larks, and I am immersed in the pure joy of seeing those girls spread across the back lawn, scratching through garden beds, and chasing little moths. Lord, I have missed having chickens in the yard for the last ten years, and I am filled with gratitude at the simple pleasure they provide.
