colored chicks for easter!

oh and I would like the dyed in shell chicks, I don't think getting chicks wet would be a good idea IDK?

I just saw these on Ideals website. They do chicks and ducks. They look cute. If I don't get my ducks by then I might order them colored...dunno. Wonder how safe it is?

The first chicks I ever bought were colored easter chicks because my kids begged me. If it weren't for those chicks, I wouldn't have my chickens now. I love my chickens!!! Anyway, every one of the easter chicks we bought were roos. I've heard they're all roos, the breeders/hatcheries use the colored chicks as a way to "get rid" of the unwanted roos.

I found myself smiling as soon as I read the first post here...transported back with just a few words to the Woolworth's store in downtown Columbia, Missouri. I was nine or ten years old, yearning over the little brooder pens set up at the front of the store, filled with pink, blue, green fluff balls, all peeping and pecking. I'd beg, and I'd always get a couple of baby chicks, and I know that however the story unfolded (and I don't remember that part of the scene), those chicks felt lots of love from me. I suspect those long ago colored Easter chicks began the interest that led to our young family having a small flock of BO hens and rooster when our daughters were school aged. I can still see them flying down the drive, a big yellow hen tucked under each arm, ready to play house with their hens. And now, in retirement, that early interest led to our backyard flock of 20. So...maybe those colored chicks aren't totally a bad thing and can lead to a lifelong love of chickens:) ~G

the only way to get colored easter chicks is to use a hypodermic needle and inject a small amount in the top of the round part of the egg. then incubate. if it lives it will hatch out colored. thats how hatcheries do it.

I bet if I used a spray bottle with the gel food color and water that would work just as well as a bath.
Some neat youtube chickens:)
