At 7am this morning one of my two eggs hatched,,,,,,The second egg has a pretty big pip in it....so I am keeping my fingers crossed. The little baby is darling. Is it normal for them to keep their eyes closed most of the time?

Hi All,

I've been reading your posts and too embarrassed to really jump in, but I am a newbie, with two sebs, that were born last spring. She has been laying, not setting. The first ones, I read not to keep, but as per this thread, I now have 5 in a cooler with a small ice pack, keeping them at about 55 degrees. I have finally located a Hygrometer, but do not remember the humitity levels that I need to keep. They should be going in the incubator in the next couple of days, and I want to have it right. Would you mind, either pointing me to the post, or telling me what the humity levels should be as I go through this?

Today, while I was out of my little town, getting a hydrometer, she (Tatiana) laid and is finally setting -- except that if I go outside she gets off. (She chose to make her nest right off my deck outside!) Can you also advises? Should I let the rest alone and let her try and hatch? The temps here are (at least this weekend) fabulous - 70's today and tomorrow, no freezing nights in the forecast. I'd love to let her hatch her babies.

Help please!!! I feel so lost!

if shes setting i would allow her to hach rather than incubate it will be easier... humidity needs to be 65% till day 26 then it needs to be 85%, starting at four until day 26 once a day for 15 mins, cool them down by removing the bators lid or taking them out of the bator and at the end of the 15 mins mist them with a spray bottle.... after day 26, only mist, no cooldown ... then leave the bator shut! if you open the bator the membraine will dry up and the gosling will not be able to move in the shell hence it will not be able to hatch... the temps are the same as chickens, if turning by hand, they will need to be turned at least 3 times a day until day 26 then stop turning..... like i said letting mom do all the ork wll be much easier..... she can set on up to 15-20 eggs!

Thanks Austin!

Now she has been off the nest for an hour or so, should I pull the egg? It was 80 degrees when I wrote - now it is about 65, but the nest is well protected, so i am sure it is warmer.. Gosh, this is complicated!

well i have goling hatching out in the incubator as i speak! they are the 3 fertile eggs of the first six egs she laid... and now my goose has 11 new eggs she is setting, so if you want, incubate the eggs u have now and then let her lay a nest and incubate, that way, everybodys happy
