Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

That would be lavender! :love I think the accepted term for Silkies is actually self blue. Looks like possible bars on the wing so maybe some cuckoo mixed in with some bleed through, what might be diluted red.. I know some Silkies get the bleed through in the hackle area and would not be considered desirable for breeding. But still perfectly cute. :)

How old?

Lavender Silkies are pretty hard to find. I've been looking for my breeding program and found a couple only a few hours away. And one other on the opposite side of the country but $30+ $50 for shipping is a little hard for me to grasp mentally. I know investing in what you desire has rewards though. :caf

These are just 7-8 weeks old. Is it still lavender with the buff/orange around the neck?

This is the only one of 6 with similar colors. Tempted to hatch more.

Hah! I’m always tempted to hatch more.

Thank you. I am currently chicken-less so BYC is keeping me sane until I get new ones in March.
Ahh! :hugs

Trixie was a beauty. :love I'm sure that picture doesn't quite do justice to her lav color.

Can you explain the difference between blue and lavender? Or show examples?
Blue is 1 copy of the recessive diluter gene to black. It looks essentially like a dark grey.

Self blue is two copies of the recessive diluter gene to black. I think that's it anyways. This looks more like a light grey.

In my Silkies my blues are very dark verging on black. I even thought they were black until I got some blue and black chicks this year. I am still breeding them though (as I have lots of request) and will select for lighter shade in the future if I keep blues. My current focus is American Paint Silkies and French Black Copper Marans. But I'm very much hoping to work on a nice line of lavender Silkies. Bearded is my favorite and all I keep.

Lavender will only create lav when bred to Lav. Yes, in my opinion even with bleed through his (oops did I say that) base color is still Lav.

Just hatched 4, Got 6 getting ready to go in my new bator with turner and my old bator just became a hatcher for lock down. So I can run hatches way more often... :yesss: :p :hmm
