I just received my Columbian Rock chicks this AM....

I ordered 25 and got 30....not bad. Anyway, my question is "does anyone know what a columbian rock CHICK looks like?". These arrived all black with a bit of yellow/off white down on their undersides. A few have a chocolate brown head, the rest are black. Very cute and very healthy. But seems odd that from this I will be getting a predominately white chicken with black hackles and tail feathers. They are NOT BRs (as I have 8 of them in the brooder now), no headspot on these at all.

Anyone have any experience that they can share?

THANKS

OT: Yard Full, Where did you get your chicks? I have been looking all over and no one has any available!

I FINALLY found them at Dunlap Hatchery out of somewhere in Idaho I think. They MIGHT have some left. She acted like this was there last week. Their number is 208-459-9088

Wish you were closer....I have 29 now and really only need about a dozen

I just called them to verify that my chicks were the right ones. She told me that they were supposed to be very dark. I also asked about add't chicks and she said they were done until next Feb. HOPEFULLY, I will start getting eggs in Dec and perhaps I can ship you some before Feb!! If you have any reason to be coming thru NW Georgia, let me know and I can get you a few of these that I have

Ummm all black is not right. They should be yellow with some black. Here is the plymouth rock page look down at chicks down at bottom of page.

Even in my catalog it shows yellow with black not black and brown and yellow or all black. Wonder what they are mixed with to come up all black Barred Rock. BTW there tail are supposed to be solid color not barred. Something I learn from those raising Delawares and from reading the SOP on Plymouth Rocks. You can download the 1915 SOP on the breed from the breed site. http://www.crohio.com/rockclub/ It is listed under the center pics second down. Good luck with you new chicks I am sure you will have lots of fun with them. Plymouth Rocks are great it is good to see other getting into other colors besides the Barreds. Welcome to the family.

I'm glad you finally got some of these. Just hope they're the right ones! At first glance, Columbian Rocks and Delawares appear similar, at least from a distance. The Rocks' hackles and tails should be solid black rather than barred like the Delawares, more like the color of a Lt. Brahma's pattern.
