If it's not scabby, blue or purple color is typically caused by lack of circulation. This can be from frostbite (most common) to heart or respiratory issues, or vitamin deficiency.

If it is scabbed over, it could be fowl pox. It's hard to tell in the picture weather the area is raised or not. If there is any blistering that is a tell-tale sign.

I have a few questions that may make it easier for us to help you.
  1. Is this her only symptom, or is she acting strange in any way?
  2. Is she the only one with this issue?
  3. What feed is your flock on?
Hope we can help figure out what is going on with your hen(s)!

This is only symptom. Three hens affected. Not acting strange. Feed is Home FreshExtra Egg Layer Meal . The black area is not blisters. If it’s Liver Problem can it be treated ? Vet may not be knowledgeable. Thanks
