Come On AC we want some eggs!

I'm sorry she has never layed for you :( I personally hope you don't give her 'the axe', but of course that's your choice. If you lived closer I would take her- I've grown rather close to your AC :)

Perhaps you could sell her as a pet or send her off to the farm with one of your other roosters?

Good Luck!

Awh, AC will be happy to hear she has another fan :)

No, don't worry, I haven't the heart to give up on her. I'm too much of a softie. She'll live out her chicken life as "the old hen who never laid" and I'm fine with that.

Could this be AC's 1st egg!?!?!

At the ripe old age of 55 weeks - could she really have started laying???? Just when I had lost all hope for her - is this for real!!!

I didn't see her lay it so I don't know for sure. It seems about the same pullet size that my WL started laying. I'll watch over the next couple of days and see if she goes into the nest box on her own. I found it in the center nest box when I retrieved the WL's egg in the other nest box.

It's smaller then my White Leghorn's egg & the WL had already laid her normal size egg yesterday too. I don't have any other white layers. My brown egg layers all laid a normal size brown egg today and the blue egg layer did too. So all those who could lay (absent the two who are still broody - tan egg and green egg) have laid.

That means either
1. the WL laid 3 eggs in two days - 2 normal and 1 less then normal size. All in the nest box and those two would have been laid within the same 4 hour period.
or
2. A brown egg layer didn't coat the egg and laid a second egg still in that 4 hour period.
or
3. the blue egg layer laid two eggs - one white and one blue all within the 4 hour period.
or
4. AC LAID HER FIRST EGG!

I am so hoping it's option number 4!!!! I'll update you once I know for sure. YEAH!

Yes! It definitely was AC's egg. I watched her lay one today too!

The only thing I didn't like was that today's egg had what looked like blood smeared on the outside. :(

I do so hope she doesn't die now just because she started laying.

Thank you both! I am beyond ecstatic about her laying. I honestly thought I would never see an egg from her. My DH was shocked when I told him she started to lay.

AC is such a special hen in our flock that she has a place in our hearts - egg or not. She was the only chick to hatch out of 24 eggs that arrived from Gabbard Farm in Georgia during the record setting hottest week in July 2011. She became fast friends with her purchased brooder mates, Smokey and Bandit. And made her way up the pecking order to be the number 2 ranked pullet. Only bowing down to her older flockmate Snow White.

Still can't believe she's finally laying!
