come on quailbrains lets see your quail

Wifezilla, you can go ahead as tell the truth. There little pudge balls and no, they never miss a meal.

If I am late to the feeding they stand at the door and growl at me. Then they all swarm and start to peck my toes until the food is in the bowls. Dang birds are going to eat me out of house and home one of these days!

Schroeder, Yes that bird is a brown coturnix. She is one of the bigger birds in the pen but I have seen others that are bigger than her. As to how much she weighs, I really have no idea. I haven't weighed any of my birds lately.

Quail_Cottage, AWWWWWW!!!!!! Love little fuzzy buts.

This is my current quail grow-out tractor

I'm going to make a bigger grow-out pen on the backside of my new chicken compound. It will be made from a 10x10 dog kennel.

I will line it with chicken wire on the 2 sides connected to the chicken runs and 1/2 hardware cloth on the 2 outside walls. I use big old mailboxes as place for them to get out of the weather.

What a great thread!!!
Especially for a total noob like me.
We just hatched our fist clutch of eggs.
Here's some pics...born yesterday.

I'm wondering if you can tell what they will look like when they get older based on what they look like now?

Mudmonkey it's hard from pictures/monitors cause they look redish to me but I'd say the last pict the top three are silver, the two on the right cinnamon, dark one on the left looks like a red breasted.

Thanks quailbrain...I did some google image searching to see what those color morphs look like (is that what they call the different variations in fowl? I've heard it used with reptiles and plants).
It's all very exciting.
