Rita slammed her body against the loose cage door for the hundredth or so time this morning. Of the 6 chickens that started their lives in this cage only 3 remainded. One had starved herself to death and the other two had strangled themselves in the wire cage this late last night. Suddenly the door gave way to her weight and fell open.
She couldn’t believe her eyes. Gallus quickly hopped out of the cage and motioned for Rita and the other hen to follow him. The 3 birds waited by the door that the farmer always came in from.
He’d be coming in any minute now to collect those birds who had passed.
Gallus, Rita, and the other hen waited with bated breath as they heard the door being unlocked.
