Ah, I forgot that part. Perhaps in the future, huh?

How often does someone go into the chicken house?

Durring the night Never except if there is a power outage to make sure all fans are runnign fine and the generaters are doing what they are suspost to do. Durring the day. While runing the eggs. At all times. The cleaning belts are run twice a day. which is more than enought but it keeps the air cleaner. and the machines running better. Also there is the walks where. the chickens are checked which is almost every hour. They check that the waters are running fine and the feed is gettign to everyone. We dont really have to wory about the temp. durring the night becasue it it gets to high we have an automatic phone line that sends the whole famly a phone call. This is very infrequent due to the autimation of the temp system.

It would be correct to say that the notion that "farmers don't care about their stock" as a generality is a myth. However, the statement that "the poultry industry by and large uses and keep birds in crowded, unnatural conditions highly susceptible to disease" is not a myth. Then again.... an awful lot of people in the poultry industry are not farmers.

What are the cleaning belts?

What is done with the dead chickens? How often are the cages checked for dead chickens.

Are the cages checked for ill birds? How often? What is done with the sick? Treated or dispatched?

I don't mean to grill you with questions. I recently did a College Speech on battery hens just a few days ago. Most of the information I could find of the web either came from the Humane Society or (Those who shall not be mentioned).

Cleanign belts are large belts where the manure is removed They replaced the scraper which was often caught in cages and could damage cages and hurt some birds. Dead chickens are eather composted or just sent out with the manure. Sick chickens are usually dispached but they are moved away from the other chickens to reduce the stress and maybe hope they will get better. A few acually do. For dead birds in cage they are removed when you walk the Rows.

I think that's why some commercial companies give the rest such a horrible reputation. I think they take too much advantage of the automated systems.

Are the eggs hand collected in your family's farm? Or are they on a conveyer belt of some sort?

Are your birds routinely treated with antibiotics?
