Common to steal chickens?

I live in a rural area, far from the reach of law enforcement. PLEASE call the police and have them at least come out and take a report. Then follow the advice of the person who said to keep a sidearm at hand.

I'm not quite sure on how "country" it is where you are, but we've had more trouble with whackadoo trespassers at our house in town than we have out at the farm... including some teenagers setting up "camp" and starting a fire in the somewhat wooded lot between our house and the neighbors. You would have thought they were headed up Everest for the amount of crap they took out there with them, all of 2 blocks from home. I digress- I hope it is someone confused and looking for a place to feel close to nature, but I'd certainly give the authorities a head's up. If he's not doing anything wrong, he won't have anything to worry about.

The fact that he was lurking about your place and on a cell phone while in the act of lurking about seems suspicious to me. Please call law enforcement. Is it dry enough in your area for that fire to get away from them? I don't know if AZ has problems with wildfires or not.

I'm not 100% sure who owns the land, i think it is city owned, but some say its owned by the gun club up the street. I think its too close to houses to be hunting. I know deeper in the woods is hunting but that was way to close in my opinion. So probably city owned in that spot.

So the city could have a squatting vagrant starting fires on its land. Or you could have a prowler casing the area. etc etc. Face it, there are no GOOD scenarios if the guy avoided you! It at least requires a call to the police to let them know in case there have been area robberies or prowlings. You have a description to give them and they may want to make a record of it!

I'm in MA and its not that dry this time of year. Pretty cold to be camping in the woods though. My husband says that since he is home now, he doesn't want to call the police. But if i see him tomorrow to call them right away. I probably won't get much sleep tonight so we'll see. I definately will have the phone and stuff close by my bed though.

Sorry - I must have looked at someone else's location. If you're not going to call the police, yes - keep the phone next to your bed. And then wait till hubby goes to work tomorrow and then call it in. Since he knows you saw him, he's going to be more careful to not let that happen again.

Well, you and your husband could go outside and yell for "cujo" and have a loud discussion about how that bloodthirsty dog of yours is a real threat and you are concerned for peoples' safety with him out roaming the woods looking for his next kill

i think i would suggest keeping your chickens locked up tomorrow early morning if you could. or have your dh out there with you when you go to do morning chores at the coop as a lookout for this guy in case he comes 'looking' for anything.
