Normal, kind people don't lurk in the woods! My kids always tease me about being paranoid since I lock all the doors and windows and keep a loaded 9 mm handy even when I'm home. I would much rather be safe than sorry! Safety first, ask questions later. Be a little paranoid okay!

Unless he has a vehicle with him at the campsite, he's got to charge that cell phone some how. The longer you talk on them the faster the battery dies and the OP said he was talking.
He's got to be close to somewhere that he can charge the phone or it'll be dead soon. I suspect he is not far from his "home base" - wherever that might be. IF he is some kind of squatter he might have been looking for an easy meal (aka one of your chickens) to roast over the campfire.

Hunting gun season may not be open in your area (it is here), but bow hunting season is usually really long, like from October 1 till January 1 or something like that. Bow season requires full camo and stealth though, the OP didn't seem to think he was a hunter.

i think i would suggest keeping your chickens locked up tomorrow early morning if you could. or have your dh out there with you when you go to do morning chores at the coop as a lookout for this guy in case he comes 'looking' for anything.

My husband leaves around 5:30am-6:00am and he said he will check when he goes to work, and I usually let them outside when I put my oldest daughter on the bus around 7:55am then after she gets on the bus I usually get them food and water and after my 5 y/o goes on her bus in the after noon I clean it and stuff like that, while my 3 y/o is napping.... So we'll see... I am going to keep a phone in my pocket tomorrow so I have it with me at all times.

Good thing is I babysit for a couple families that work retail and have various hours so there is never a set time on a set day that people are in and out. For the most part it changes from day to day and week to week. Plus my parents are in and out visiting and friends work nights so they are visiting at odd hours as well. I guess that is all a good thing.​

I would go to the grocery store, get a rotisserie chicken, throw in some rolls and some coleslaw and put it out for him. Already cooked, you didn't name it or have to feed it, what could be easier!

If he was talking on a cell phone, he wasn't a hunter. Shouldn't you be quiet when you're hunting? Plus it's not hunting season, like you said AND he's near people's houses. Something doesn't add up.

I wouldn't like it either.

I grew up inner city, I now live very rural. No no one should be close to my home looking at my place with a cell phone. One early morning a few years ago I awoke to banging on the door. It was a sheriff asking if they could check out my woods since a car was left by my house that was used in a drive by 150 miles away. I said find the SOB's and get them out of here. They did, hiding in one of my sheds. Gives me the willies to think what may have happened after the sun came up. Either I or my wife have a weapon close at hand at all times. Serves to take care of the two and four legged predators that you may encounter. Be safe, not a statistic. We are not paranoid, just safe. The world has changed and not always for the better.
