Common vs Japanese

I don't think your local nature center will want a non-native bird, but it's worth a try.

It's a social animal, it really needs to be in a group. Shouldn't be too hard to find more, though, coturnix aren't exactly rare.

Can you get pics from a few different angles? We can try and figure out what sex it is.

It probably won't use a cardboard box house. Just tear the box into a couple of corner-shaped pieces and it can tuck into those. A towel won't help against predators, but would help it feel more secure- just be sure there's enough ventilation if it's hot there.

They will take it. We know then very well and are always happy to help an animal in need.
I'll look into getting another one. Here are some more pictures. Some of them are not great. I can get more tomorrow.

Have you managed to catch it?

If not, I'd prop a box up with a stick and string, like kids used to do trying to catch squirrels. If it'll come up to bird feed, it should go in there. I wouldn't try to grab it yourself, because if you miss, it might be too scared to come up to you again.

Yes, yesterday. I placed the wire dog cage on the ground, threw some feed in and it went right in with no fear.
