There was a lady in Euclid Ohio that swore the fawn in her yard was going to attack her so she killed it with a shovel. Really though she was just tired of the deer eating her plants, and wanted to show all the deer a lesson by killing that baby.

Sad about the garden. I am so excited it is warm and we can start growing things. I could not imagine getting in trouble for gardenning.Bad enough raw milk is illegal and now this.

If cities want money they should make cell phone use illegal while driving. That would bring in enough cash. I do think their is concern that more and more people will grow and raise their own foods. It would never make a huge dent in profits,so I think we should let people have their community gardens. It brings people together in a good way.

I would never want to use city land for a community garden and get the governments nose into it. The government wants to tax and regulate everything these days. I read into page 2 of the article so my comments are to the idea in general and I thought what I've always thought... If I want a garden I'll plant one on my own land. I could just see some fool trying to sue the city because they tripped over a hoe and broke their arm in the fall. . Or is someone gets food poisoning and tries to blame the garden. Or gets stung by a bee on the grounds of the garden. Unfortunately that is how too many people are these days.

Sorry, don't mean to high jack, but with this crisis with the oil pumping into the Oceans at a rate non of us can imagine. We all better have a garden to grow food for our family's. This Oil thing is gonna wipe out the global seafood market. That's gonna put stress on the grain supplies. So on & so forth. They should be grateful if people are doing something to feed themselves. They'd rather give away food stamps. We live in a world created by (expletive removed by staff--symbols are also not allowed) politicians.

So I went back and watched the video. Interesting. I can see both sides. But apparently it is a zoning violation and people buy homes in areas that they agree to accept the zoning laws. It's no different than any other zoning law in residential neighborhoods. Here I can't have livestock. I could probably get away with a goat that only we would know about but I just am not that type of person. Yet it doesn't bother me that the guy behind me has 5 acres and has a pig pen that they shouldn't. Again I'm back to my original thought that they should have their own gardens on their own property.

Hate saying it but they went about it wrong going to use government property.

There is a couple I read about up in Canada who have just the most awesome business.
They go to private property owners and get permission to plant a raised garden in their back yard. Part of the agreement is the property owner can also harvest what produce they need. They also talk to the owner about what they like and use the most.
Everything left gets sold at a farmers market.
By the way this is in the city. I cannot remember how many homes they had planted gardens in but it was quite a few.
