Im renovating a 8'x10' shed into a coop for approximately 20 chickens. I had designed a set of regular nesting boxed for hubby to build, but the fact that I've been blessed with 3 broodies this year has made me reconsider. So...what do you think of this....2 plywood broody boxes sitting on the floor, about 24" X 24" X 18" high with closeable hardware cloth doors, and above those, a single wide 4'L X 12" deep by 12" tall community box. That would also give a 12" platform out front of the community boxes. Am I missing anything important with this design idea? Does anyone have any photos of their broody boxes with community boxes?

There is a man on here that has one big nesting box,

I like single ones cause when we had a 24x12x18they piled in like a mosh pit!! It wasn’t pretty and lots of screaming (like a concert ?)

Try it. Just use screws so your hubby can change it easily

I don't have a rooster so no need for a broody box but I like my Roll Out Nest Box Mk3. Make your box a bit bigger on height and depth. I'd go 14" deep and 14" tall for standard chickens.

This is what we came up with. Bottom broody pens still needs a divider and doors on the front. Bottom measure 5' x 2' by 22" high. Top is 4' x 16" x 16" (just used extra lumber we had around so that's why the top is only 4'). Now.. ..to see if they will use it!!!
