Compacted crop?! Please Help!

I am having the worst luck with my chickens today. My sibling just came to me holding one of our roosters, and told me he was limping. It looks like he might have pulled it out of its socket? Could it be sprained?

Yikes! I'm sorry but I'm no help to you with that one. Touch wood I have never had to deal with that. I do suggest that you start a new thread with the correct title so people with experience in that area can help. Fingers crossed for you.

I was feeling her crop on Tuesday and realized that she might actually have doughy crop, so I started to give her the medicine on TwoCrows article. It seems to be working slowly. Here’s my question; can I feed her maple syrup water?

Lol i just had to check to see if you were a fellow Canadian. I thought only us crazy Canucks thought maple syrup cured everything. Honestly I'm not sure of the answer but my gut says adding sugar into the iffy environment inside that crop may not be a good thing. Yogurt with probiotics might be a better option. What medicine are you giving? And how's your roo?

Haha! I have been feeding her the recipe on TwoCrows article. Here’s the recipe.( I just copied it off the article)
1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda (do NOT use baking powder)
1/4 teaspoon Ginger Powder (you can even use the contents of a human Ginger capsule)
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
a squirt of Lemon Juice
1 Tablespoon of water
My rooster is fine after two days in prison. I still have no idea why he was limping in the first place though. He’s probably still mad at me. The first thing he did when I put him back in the coop, was run up to each hen and do a little dance in her face.

Give her two ducolax sodium 100mg capsules (stool softener) followed buy about 5 ml or so of water or better yet vitamin plus electrolyte water, then cheak her crop the next morning before she eats or drinks and if treatment has work her crop should be totally flat against her body. If it's not compleatly empty then give two more ducolax followed buy more water, it may take a few more treatments depending on how bad the impaction is and try massaging a few times throughout the day but do this in a downward motion and don't continue with massaging her if she starts spiting up fluids as you could cause her to aspirate, keep me posted

So, we ended up doing surgery. Two good family friends came and did mostly all of it. One is an EMT and one is a nurse. Bossy is sleeping right now (Bossy is the hens name). Right after surgery she tried to preen herself, which is a good sign i guess. I hope she gets better!
