Compatibility with Red Golden Pheasants.

Bobwhites seem to be popular. Thanks Reallemons1 for the endorsement on the quail. How many would be a good number to start out with for the given size of the pen?

I would only go with a pair of each of the ground birds (if you are going to house both quail and pheasants together) and you could go with two or three pairs of doves.

Be sure to add all of the enrichment items to keep them occupied.

About doves, do they need any heat in the winter? And Since my pheasant runs are not attached to a barn or coop, what type of housing or nesting boxes should doves have?

We make sure the Ringneck Doves have access to a building to escape the elements, but no heat is provided. In your situation, you could use sheet plastic or other material to cover a section of the north side to provide protection from wind, snow, etc.

Doves are notorious for being poor nest builders, but try regardless. Provide a box that has a "lip" to prevent eggs from rolling out.

I'm favoring the ring neck doves myself. There seems to be a State license requirement to have bobwhites here in OH. Plus the addition of vertical movement is appealing as well.
