i hate unresponsible animal owners. id quote them for the chickens, feed and fence. its their fault you have to replace it. even if they only end up paying half for it, it was worth it.

You can be compensated for the replacement value of the equivelent birds you lost. Feed, etc. is usually not included in compensation. But, if you go to court, they can be expected to pay for any damages to fence/coop/property. That includes labor and materials. I suggest you get 3 quotes on the repairs from handymen/contractors. Ask them to include a materials price list. Then ask the dog owners to pay for that on top of the cost for the dead birds. (present them with copies of all 3 estimates. After that, they will keep the dog out of your yard.
