AMEN!! That's what I keep saying. Of course it probably won't ever happen. I think that we chicken lover, crazy people need to take over. Maybe things would be like they should be. Give every one a chicken and 40 acres!!!!!!

Regarding overgrowth of previously beautiful and private country areas, I suppose this is the natural result of humans just populating the country and earth as if it's going to last forever. Leaving wonderful land to grandchildren is a nice thought, but think of all the other people's grandchildren that they'll be competing for living space. The whole idea of making more and more humans is part of the problem.

New land is not being made, people someday are just going to inhabit every single acre, Walmarts and SUVs included. I'm sorta glad I'm older and won't live to see it.
 
The biggest problem (and this is going to sound mean) people are fat and lazy these days. They're building a brand new food lion outside of my tiny town because people were complaining that they have to drive 5 miles south or 5 miles north to the other 2 food lions. Come on people! The town 5 miles north of me is going to get a super walmart, WTH!!!! The other walmart is 10 miles from them. LAZY!!!!
 
I tucked our rooster under my arm, and then my 11-year old DD and I went to visit the neighbors and ask if the roo's noise had bothered them. After looking into those beady eyes and scratching the fluffy grey head they all said no, he wasn't bothering them.

My DH mocked me for doing it, but I think seeing the little guy made him less an abstract nuisance and more of a cute neighborhood anecdote.

DH says I'm now known as the crazy chicken lady. I've been called worse.

And our little roo, who normally hates being held, seemed to know he was on trial. He held still, cocked his head cutely, and just generally mugged for everyone who saw him. He reeked of, "I'm cute! Love me!!" And DD, the proud owner, batted her hazel eyes and thanked them all for letting them keep her chicken. It was the ultimate PR experience.

Ain't it the truth. I live near I-65 that runs through KY/TN in between 2 major cities... Nashville Tn and Bowling Green KY our little town is called Franklin KY. They are annexing it all the way out to the interstate so all the franchises can come build their things. Eventually it will all run together into one big metropolis! Tomorrow the new Lowes Franklin will open right across the road from the walmart. Then you know what will be next... Target goes hand inhand with Lowes.
Don't get me wrong... I'm all for progress. But why not re-use these buildings that are sitting empty? Must we always knock down the trees, ruin good farm land just to accomodate Lowes and anything like them? I myself live @ 6miles from town. And boy am I feeling the squeeze. All that I love about this area is being gobbled up by land barons etc.​
 
I feel your pain, but I would take the trucks and the warehouses any day of the week. Them truck drivers are awful nice people. I bought with Farms on three sides and a chuch/cemetary then a huge seminary on the third forth side. The 400 acre farm is sold and is going to be 1600 family units, and a mini-mall 7-11 with gas pumps etc... and the Farm behind me just sold, haven't been notified (because our properties adjoin) whaen the hearing is gonna be for that development YET, but know it is coming.

PeiTheCelt- With the right Lawyer that COUNTRY claluse is useless. My uncle had a pig farm on over 2000 acres, and when the Big Wigs moved out to the country thier lawyers were able to get a must minimize farm smells law passed, and he had been there since 1950. He eventually sold the farm due to health problems, but shouldnt of had to, but you gatta love those lawyers.

Same here as well, empty and a HUGE new one is now opened right down the road from the vaccant one.

Point is the original question was what to do? Please try talking to the neighbor - invite them over to lunch or dinner or a big country breakfast with lots of eggs and show them your chickens and rooster. Have you taken the time to get to know this neighbor, to have them over, to take them some eggs? It can make all the difference in the world - just getting to know someone. Most people are hesitant to call police or make trouble if they actually know their neighbor. Problem is today most people want to rely on the law and courts to solve their differences - the bible says settle your differences with your brother - as well as - love your neighbor and love your enemy. Sound advice.
