hi, i grew up around horses, pigs, chickens and the like as we were a competitive equestrian family until life happened...45 years later, gosh, it has been to long...I am sure some of you all know what I mean.

starting with some rouen ducks and a pond and a couple acres...got plans for chickens, goats, and once i have the duck thing figured out, competition welsh harlequins and/or cayugas are my main interest for now. big plans start small, the rouens are coming next week and I have studied and listened to my neighbors enough. time to put this ship in gear and start this journey.

i am a sci-fi fan, but with a hint of sanity that makes me cringe when someone calls me a geek, i'm a displaced farm boy who is heading home, kind of. end of story.

time to write a new one.

Hi & :welcome Patrick!

Glad you could join us all here! I’m not a duck person but I’m sure if you pop by the duck section the friendly keepers there will be able to help you with your new duck project ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/ducks.42/

Good luck and enjoy your time here on BYC :frow

I'm a cabin dwelling homesteader at heart, totally misplaced and displaced throughout my 48 years and taking teeny steps toward mortgage-free land ownership, where I'm going to build a teeny cabin and spend the remainder of my years.

So you're not alone!!

Did you mail order your ducks? Hatched or ducklings? You must post photos, here or in the duck forum!!

:p

Thank you. Chickens are on my list of must haves (barnvelders and welsummers) so never fear we will cross paths again...Ducks are just coming first, I have a pond to fill...lol

I've got a lot of projects going (aquaponics, and pond-ponics) but they are all staged so that it has a better chance of succeeding (problems, failures, hiccups are expected but will be overcome..lol).

I have been studying micro-farming for the last two years and now it is time to move forward.

thanks again for the cheery welcome at this late hour!

Hi CarolinaSunshineFlock!

I ordered from Metzer since they will ship a small number and I have good rec's. They are supposed to be here on the 10th. I will definitely post some snaps of the ducklings once they are acclimated.

They were supposed to come yesterday from another local hatchery, but they bailed on me, last minute. I wasted the fermented feed I prepared but not to bad only a couple days...

I spent many a summer in the Carolina's and hiked the blue ridge all my youth...

Wow that’s a lot of projects that must be keeping you busy, I hope they all go well for you :highfive:

Not a late hour for me as I’m in the UK so my day is just starting at nearly 7am :)

I'm actually from California and really should change my user name. I've always wanted to go to North Carolina. Maybe I'll make it happen someday!!

That's so sweet you had fermented feed already to go for your new little ducks. I can only imagine the delight you're going to experience when you open the box and see your flock for the first time.

I was a Manufacturing Engineer and later Director of IT for most of my career, so I have a penchant for systems and the whole idea of synergy in nature on a micro level has always been fascinating to me, so happy to be back in the one system that is programmed by someone greater than me.

Good Morning!
