My wife has a rather large corn plant in the house. The soil is old and stripped of all nutrition so her beloved plant is waning. Repotting it really isn't practical so last night I removed 1/2 of a 5 gallon bucket of the soil directly around the plant and mixed it with compost 1/2:1/2. I put a shovel and a half of compost around the base of the plant first and then poured in the 50:50 mix. How long would you suspect before we see the benefits of the compost? This is my first ever batch of compost. I screened it with 1/4 hardware cloth and it has remained air temp despite being in a large retaining bin. My first batch of compost yielded just shy of 12 cubic feet of finished compost. All of it has been in the same bin with 0 heat generation.
