Do you use your hose to dampen compost if it needs moisture? What I'm thinking about is chlorine.

yes, I do. Also keeps the dust down. In theory, the chlorine will react with the ammonia and anything else in the pile. It won't last long and contribute to the salt content.Do you use your hose to dampen compost if it needs moisture? What I'm thinking about is chlorine.
Boy that would be nice to see your setup also i could use more food waste all i have now is what my wife and i generate which is not much, I buy lettuce sometimes for my older birds but could use more, cant wait for Spring and some warm weather so i can incubate, i cant stop the chicken Math by the way I have a little over 3 acres and I am really loving my retirementNice to see another Rhode Islander on here! Especially one interested in composting with chickens.
Sounds like we have similar sized, too. I’m guessing if you’re in Richmond, you may have more space than me, but you can do a lot in a small space.
If you want a socially distant tour of my setup when the weather warms up give me a shout. I can probably also help with sourcing food waste if you need more food/nitrogen in your piles.
Benefits will outweigh any damage in my mind.
I do that anyway...Agreed...it’s a low enough level of chlorine that you can drink it...won’t hurt the pile any.
To be extra safe, I guess you could always drink from the hose and pee on the pile!![]()

Excellent “nutrient recycling program”!I do that anyway...![]()
If it makes you happy, it's not really a fail. And if we didn't enjoy it, we wouldn't do it.I’m jealous of the 3 acres. We’re on 4/10th of an acre but I manage to fit a lot of farm on it.
Hit me up with a private message once the weather warms up and we can talk tour and anything I can do to help connect you with food waste sources (or share my excess).
I chicken-and-rabbit sat for a friend who was away last week and they gave us an overly generous gift card to say thank you. Within hours my wife had allocated the funds to a new batch of 16 chicks to fill one of our currently empty coops.
We failed chicken math a LONG time ago!
