Composting poop?

I read on my new composter that you ought not put pet waste in it. Is there a different way to compost chicken waste (i.e. does it do better in a pile?) or are they not considered pets? What do you do?? Thanks!!

I pile it up with everything else (after I have given it to the chickens) they do the initial break down and it is much faster and they like it too..

It's mostly talking about dogs and cats... Such animals can have parasites that won't be killed by the heat from the composting.
