I dont know, but just to be safe, I will *try* not to go online tomorrow. I know my 1 computer has an antivirus, not sure about the other 2 though. Ugh!
Its such a pain that people need to put out viruses.
It doesn't sound like just turning off your PC's will keep you from getting the virus. Most of the computers that are going to get it already have it installed and people don't know about it. The damage will just start hitting at midnight.
OK...Thank you all....that helps me to understand it alittle better....I have my 2 antivirus systems up and running .....so hope it is enough.....If I suddenly disappear from BYC, you will know I was a casuality ......of the worm
The extent of the launch of this worm is to attack you with spam, OR (depending the version that may or may not have gotten onto your computer) it is attached to a key logger on another computer which will read your passwords and eventually try all passwords associated with any type bank account you use. Kind of like a trojan horse virus, but with the ability to run your actual computer system without you there!!! SCARY!
This gives the hacker the ability to get into said bank accounts, move money, and withdraw whatever their heart desires signed in as YOU!
There are 4 versions total Microsoft has tracked the newest showing up about 7 days ago.
I will get the link to microsoft for you with all the 'fixes' you can download if you feel you may be infected. 60 minutes showed a map of the heaviest infected computer geographiclly... the main focus of computers being in Europe, Russia, and Eastern United States and Easter Canada. Nearly 330 million person and business computer systems.
Main target sites where the virus is being linked it through sites like facebook, but the infected sites or sites that have 'video' and 'music' links.
Best software to be running to make sure your computer is safest is Norton Antivirus and AVG antivirus! Both know what to look for and are on top of this virus with daily updates.
For more information please use these links and share this information with friends ASAP.
Pretty nasty stuff... I've been trying to get any fixes I can find. But from AVG it shows I have no know sources of these files on my system during searches.
Again, whether you use your computer or not tomorrow makes no difference. It was most likely put onto your computer any time between November 2008 and even as soon as today. It won't actually run officially until tomorrow!!!
AND microsoft has a $250,000 reward to anyone with information leading to catching the hackers who planted this virus. Word is its a bunch of Russian Teenagers!!!???
