Hello All,

I am building a 4 bird chicken tractor with a 6' x 14' enclosed run. The chickens will be confined to the run due to predators, coyotes, dogs, raccoon, skunk, etc. My concern is predators digging under the run base. I thought about potting a weld wire floor in the run, but that would interfere with scratching, dusting, etc. I would appreciate your thoughts and advice on this.

Thanks

Karl

You could put an 18 - 24 inch apron around the periphery as many do with the fences surrounding their runs. That way, the predators would not be able to dig down around the edge of the run. With the predator standing on the apron encountering the fence, it would try to dig down, but would be stopped by the welded wire.

I raised CX over the summer and their house was a moveable floorless tractor. I put roughly an 18in wire apron around the entire tractor and I just lifted it up hooked it on a nail when I had to move it then after it was moved I folded it back down and straightened it out. It worked for me but I did not have them housed in the tractor for too long only from age 3-7 weeks old. Heres a pic

Thank you for your replies and ideas. I will make hinged panel aprons on each side that I can raise and lower as I move the chicken tractor.
