Condition of Shipped Eggs on Arrival: How Should They Look?

Hi there... I have been on another thread that is turning out to be a pretty good resource on how to give shipped eggs the best chance possbile. You should check it out....

Ok, so for the first 7-10 days, no turning at all? then turn until day 18? Just want to make sure I am getting this, because I am going to be getting some shipped eggs soon that I have wanted for quite some time. I want to get this right!!

I followed aveca's plan except could'nt quite wait 7 days so started turning on day 5 by raising each egg crate from side to side (still not laying them on their sides). I can not believe how many of my shipped eggs are developing.

Where is this "Easter Egg hatch thread" that you mention, Aveca? I see one thread that's about 700+ pages long, but I can't find a shipped eggs cheat sheet.

Thanks.

The same information is on the other thread you started... [=https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/641760/settling-shipped-eggs-necessary-with-auto-turner/20][/] I did find it on the Easter thread and it was a pain in the bumm! That thing is too long! Don't hold me to the exact number but if memory serves me right it is between post 3721 and 3729

That's awesome! I wish I had read that prior to this setting of eggs. My incubator is full of shipped eggs. 1 set from a BYCer, and another set from ebay. 27 to start with. When I unpacked the ones from ebay, 2 were wet, I was thinking...grreeattt... Anyways. I let them all sit upright in an egg carton for a day. Incubator has been running for 2 days already. So in they go, the next night...one exploded...yep one of the wet ones. It didn't have any smell when I put it in, but I put it in front so I could watch it. 2 days later the next one goes. down to 25. I candled on day 9 because I couldn't stand it any longer. Looks like 10 clear, and 1 possibly blood ring, very dark shell, so am gonna leave it for a little while longer. 14 developing with movement.

I want to try avecas plan for the next, but I am doing a mixed shipped and my own. So will it hurt my eggs to set 5 days without turning? I mean I know I can open the incubator to turn them, but i hate to drop the temp that many times a day and disrupt the shipped eggs. Any thoughts?

Yes, curranchickens, I also looked up that cheat sheet that aveca mentioned and posted the contents and a link to the original post on my other thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...gs-necessary-with-auto-turner/70#post_8658851

By the way, I did finally figure out why I couldn't find any air cells--I didn't realize they would be so tiny, and they were covered up by my candler. I had to rotate and sort of slide the candler around on the big end of the egg (sort of like an ultrasound scan) before I could see the air cells. The eggs were so fresh that the air cells were only about the size of a dime on day one. Now that they've been in for several days, the air cells are bigger and easier to spot. I guess I was looking for something about the size of the air cell you often see when you peel a hard boiled egg, but those eggs are much older. Fresh eggs have a much smaller air cell. Some of them were misshapen like a figure 8 or something, but most were just circular.

How high did you tilt the bottom of the egg crate? I'm receiving 6+ some extras (so i might only be using half an egg carton) and am having my ex hatch them using his reptipro5000... i reeeeally want these ones to hatch. Also, do you you cut a hole in the bottom of the crate under each egg?
