Confessions: Animal Hoarding, Animal Planet, Jan 14th, about chickens!

That is terrible! I wondered who Rob had brought to help him... thought it was some BYC volunteers since that's the way the show made it look. Do you think they didn't mention your rescue group since the animals you were rescuing were, to many people, "just chickens"?

Oh, and I forgot to ask if anyone knows how many eggs Peter collected in a day? Does anyone know what he was doing with all of them? With just a dozen hens we are overrun with eggs during the summer months and I give lots away to family and friends. Sure hope Peter was giving at least some of his away, because I KNOW he couldn't eat that many all by himself.

Yeah, we're pretty frustrated that our group got cut out pretty much altogether with all the hard work we did! We certainly don't regret helping the chickens themselves because they are wonderful and we are so happy they're in a better place now, but we thought Animal Planet would help us out just a little here. We have put a lot of time, effort, love, and care into those birds so it's just upsetting that Animal Planet chose to just push us aside like that, especially because we can use all the help we can get placing those roosters. Of course we took the birds for free, I don't think Animal Planet even donated at all to help with their care.

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words, though!

That's upsetting and actually just not very nice for them to use you like that. I also thought they should have mentioned the actual backyardchickens.com website. Lesson learned for anyone involved in future productions - see if you can negotiate the amount of free advertising ahead of time. So AP didn't pay you anything to take the chickens? That isn't right at all for a commercial outfit to use a charitable one that way. If that is the case I wouldn't mind writing them a letter reminding them Animal Place not only didn't get exposure but also bore the entire financial burden of rescuing the chickens.

Did they mention the organizations in the credits after the show? You know, like web addresses or phone numbers after it was over? Is it on the website? I would hope people could find you after the show to help out!

Yeah! I was waiting for this episode impatiently! And was excited to see some mention of my chicken forum! ;-)

Great job, guys, with helping Peter!

I haven't logged into BYC in quite sometime but I watched the episode last night and recognised Rob right away so I'm here today to say that you guys did a wonderful thing and I'm real sorry that the Animal Place wasn't properly mentioned... I myself thought the volunteers shown were wearing BYC shirts until I just read this but I was sitting there thinking "What's Rob going to do with all those Chickens?!" LOL
I thought it was a great, touching episode. The emotion between Peter and his daughter Carmel was so thick and I sincerely felt for her when he lashed out at her.
I'm glad it all worked out and I hope the remaining Roo's get homes really soon!

Isn't there a saying about the best deeds go unnoticed..... Look at it this way. All of us here at BYC know Rob AND Animal Place did a great thing, and you know it too, and your friends, and your families. I wish Animal Place got credit well deserved too, but at least have the satisfaction of knowing you did a good and selfless thing.
