This is my first post- go easy. Last Friday I noticed my hen was sitting among the shade/rocky area and not out foraging in the garden, a special treat. Saturday I separated her to observe, she drank and ate yogurt and meal worms. A cease in egg production, I gave her a warm bath. She was very calm and cooperative as she is a sweet bird. That night after a blow dry I allowed her back thinking she was likely just a sweet broody as I had also seen her on the nest.
I continued to watch her, and she will get up to eat for a few minutes a day, she follow her two closest sibs around but then just lay down. Today she ate watermelon happily, but didn't join in the foraging. I notice her comb is lighter and today hubby concurred with my "chicken crazies" that she looks lethargic.
She's eating, a little, drinking normal. Just sitting a lot, tail down sometimes feather ruffled. I did notice a poop with yellow (consistency of baby food in the yellow part) but no labor breathing, eye goobs mites, etc. Tonight I have her in "med surge" in the garage with yogurt, pedialite, watermelon and bread. Along with her regular feed. She had her mouth open but I think she was hot, thus opened a garage window.
She's my sweet lavendar wyandotte and I'm obviously very upset. I did start her on oxytetracycline at the advice of the feed store. One dose by syringe tonight.
I'm perplexed, any advice is greatly appreciated.
