So I have this rooster, he has half silky looking feathers and half normal feathers (split down the middle) I hatched some chicks recently from my other two roosters, I thought I separated the half silked rooster for long enough but apparently not, and I hatched a white chick (silkie roo is dom white and no other birds are)
This white chick is feathering way slower than all the others and its feathers look not formed? Or silkie-ish?? What is going on?
The breed I have is supposed to be purebred Pekin bantams but now I doubt that..
Any silkie and genetics experts know what’s going on here and if the white chick is indeed silkie or has some other weird feather mutation? Pics attached of chick, father and other chick of same age to compare

I am absolutely not going to be any help at all as I'm not a silkie expert, or geneticist, but that split rooster looks so cool! I didn't know they could be split half regular half silky. He is such a handsome boy.

If this is a silkie, it's a "satin" silkie. That's a type of feathering that can come out with them. They're still a silkie as in breed. I breed silkies, and out of 50 purebred show-quality silkies, I'll get one satin.

The real clue if it's a silkie is how many toes? They have five, and there should be feathers on them.

I mean silked feathers not silkie the breed though I suspect maybe some crossed with silkies in the past? I got the adults as eggs from another breeder who claimed they were purebred pekins
Just the little white chick has I think got silked feathers, I’ll take another pic of him when I get home as he’s grown more now it’s seems clear to me his feathers aren’t normal

How many toes? Didn't you say he could have gotten the silked feathers from his dad though?

Well it’s a rather confusing scenario, all my birds are straight feathered and supposed to be purebred pekins however my rooster has a weird feather mutation on one side of his body that looks like/similar to silked feathers, until this chick I just assumed it was some odd deformity however this white chick appears to have silked feathers all over.. normal amount of toes, can you tell from the pic I sent above if the white chick has silked feathers?
Silked Pekin bantams do exist but they’re pretty rare I think

Do you want him? He doesn’t get along with my head rooster (kidding mostly)
People on here suspected he might be a chimera, basically two different sets of DNA combined into one chicken

I got a new picture of the chick I think has silked feathers, do you think it’s a silked feather type or normal? He’s two weeks old now

The chick definitely looks silked, which would mean that at least one of your hens carries the gene for silked feathering too.
The rooster who you said is half silked, half smooth sounds like a fascinating bird, though!
