Confused

inside roost set up is similar to mine. have you closed them inside it yet so they learn it is home? they will learn to go there at dark too but you may have to round them up for awhile and close them in.it sounds mean but it works, also where you are and the weather in winter you need to consider.

sorry I was off greeting, didn't mean to leave off so long. OK it will work once they learn it is home. raising the coop and attaching a run are good as well, add no cross boards in run if you can. they will roost there instead.

How many birds does it say it will accommodate? Rule of thumb is 4 sg.feet per bird inside the coop and 10 sg.feet per bird in outdoor run.

You really only need one nest box per 3 hens because they tend to use the same box - even tho all nests are identical. If you don't need the nest boxes on one side maybe you could close them off for now and put roosts higher above them.

You want to be certain there is enough ventiliation - is the front screened panel the only vent the coop has?

Drumstick diva is making some other good points I left out in my tired state last night. Doh on my part!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You can see how your chickens do with the roost set up and add more roosts slightly higher up if you need to. Those coop kits are often arranged rather strangely, think some of it is how they are manufactured to be shipped flat, or folded etc, and others that the design people really don't know chickens.

x2 Drumstick Diva. In a walk-in coop, the roosts should be 36" off the floor and the nests, about 18" off the floor. This will give you an Idea of what you need. The roost gives them the idea of more safety. and if they are the same level, They will may roost in the nests instead of roosting on the roost itself. They like to roost in high places for safety sake.
