I have a barred rock that i noticed sounds congested. She could possibly be wheezing. She is making little sneezing sounds. It has been hot, humid and rainy here in florida. We noticed her making different noises for the past few days, but since she is young we thought it was her going from her baby chick peep to a more adult noise. But today it definitely sounds like she could have a cold. What can i do?!

How old is she? Do you have a lot of ventilation in your coop. More is better, since many respiratory problems get started because of a lack of ventilation. Dust ammonia fumes affect them so much more in tight spaces. Rainy conditions make it worse. Living in Florida, you would need it for the extreme heat. Does she have watery eyes, any swelling of her eyes or face, any nasal secretions or dirt around her nostrils, or is she acting sick? Antiobiotics such as oxytetracycline and Gallimycin can be used in the water to treat the diseases caused by bacteria, and to prevent secondary infections in viruses. Most of those diseases can make your flock carriers. Infectious bronchitis, mycoplasma (MG or CRD,) coryza, and ILT are the most common resp. diseases. Here is a link to read about those and other diseases: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044
