I've been on one other board wth more members. Its pretty cool to have so many.

Might I ask a really stupid question though? Ok make that two stupid questions... LOL

What does having this volume of members mean, what i mean is, why is it such a big deal to the board. Does it give us some kind of benefit? Or is there some kind of message board ranking?

Ok make that several stupid questions...but just wondering.

It's a valid question, "What's the big deal? Why do more members matter?"

My thoughts:

1) It validates that raising backyard chickens isn't just something that random people do. Having tens of thousands of members throughout the world gives a lot of credibility to what we do.

2) Power in numbers: We can pool our resources much better as a large group to accomplish our goals than we could otherwise. Having a huge community attracts more attention and allows our community to do way more together than we ever could individually or in smaller groups. We really want to see a chicken in every yard (or at least the ability to have them).

3) More people means more help: You can log into BYC at any time, 24/7 and there will almost always be someone to talk to and to get help from... or at least someone with whom you can share your chicken obsession.
