Conjunctivitis? HELP please.

I just realized this is the same pigeon from your other thread with the possibly infected amputation site. How’s he doing now? Is he able to stand and clean himself up now? I will be fully honest with you and say that based on my observations in your previous post I would consider culling this bird for his own well-being, but if he is eating well and mobile enough to take care of his basic needs then there is hope
yes, he’s the same one!

i got somewhere else the advice of giving him antibiotics for a while and it kind of worked! he’s eating much more and has put weight on and is taking care of himself to an extent: not of his tummy because he can’t reach there but i give him a bath every couple of days.

really if i saw the animal is suffering i’d put him down but that’s not the case as far as i can see.

Wow! I had been thinking about this bird and wondering how he was doing. @lighthouse - has he had a course of antibiotics since the eye problem began. @Pyxis any thoughts?

That was good advice. The amputation site certainly looked inflamed. I hate how little follow up you got from the vet for the high price you paid. I'm real glad he doing better. Keep us updated if you can?

Can he stand or hobble around? I’ve seen a few one legged feral pigeons that were mobile enough to find food.
How does the amputated region look now?
he got his leg amputated when he was still almos a baby (six weeks i think) and i think that’s why he can’t keep balance with only one leg —because he never learned to do that.

the big scab fell, the swelling got down and the colour is almost pink.

I think it's time to try some physio-therapy. I think if he were mine I'd rig up a sling in a box to hold him up with the good leg in standing position. This would help keep his belly clean an encourage him to move the good leg and strengthen the muscles. You are probably right that it will be more challenging for him because the injury occurred before he learned to walk. I have seen these sling contraptions used to treat chickens but atm I can't remember where.:barnie

Edit added I'd even start thinking about how to fashion a little prosthetic leg. I wonder if it could be done?

this is what i did the other day for him —see screenshots taken from a video that i sent to a company that makes prosthesis for animals. they are asking me for $2000 for it. anyway it doesn’t work because he can somehow get out of it.

i don’t understand what you mean by the sling and the box, sorry. perhaps could you draw it?
