Hello, I'm new to the forum, I've been reading everything I possibly can find about raising chickens. I don't have my chickens yet (coming from my pet chicken in May) but I'm so excited because just this week the ordinance in Middletown was changed so that I'll actually be able to have them!

Yay, Congratulations to you AND to Middletown!!!! Were you part of the driving force behind legalizing them? You're going to LOVE this hobby and you've come to the right place for all you need to know about chicken-keeping!

I'm getting 4, 1 Australorp, 2 Easter Eggers and 1 white Silkie (is it bad that I'm secretly hoping that they toss a few extra in?). My husband thinks I'm completely crazy but my 3 year old daughter is just as excited as I am.

They won't toss a few extras in.. but they may call and tell you that you are too far from an international airport to ship you so few chickies. Then you will have to double your order. Sad, isn't it?

I agree, you are going to love it! Welcome to BYC. Feel free to ask any questions. You should bring your daughter to the Southern New England Poultry Show at UCONN on April 2nd. It is for 4Hers to show their birds, but anyone can come and see the exhibition and watch the showmanship. It will get her excited about the birds you are getting and maybe plant a seed for wanting to join 4H in the future. Get hubby to come, too. My hubby simply tolerated my chicken obsession until we went to the big Poultry Congress in Jan. Now he asks about different breeds and was practically handing out cigars when our girls started laying eggs.
