Yes I do! My araucana hen hatched out a RIR and Bantam cross.

Thanks Beth. I knew you would but you live too far away for it to have worked out today.

We ended up getting three BO pullets from a local feed store (which I had NO idea even sold baby chicks, "thefamilyflock" recommended either you or this feed store, LOL!). So, I'll bring the chicks into my daughter's school before the kiddies show up and they'll think their incubator worked! I appreciate the response though, thank you!

I have a woman locally I hooked up with she is a teacher and I give her free hatching eggs and If no one hatches she comes and buys chicks for the kids and keeps them when they are done.

Wish I lived closer to you!!

That's so sweet of you to do. I wish I could keep a rooster for about a thousand reasons, fertile eggs topping the list!

I emailed my daughter's kindergarten teacher today to see whether either of the classrooms had any luck (they have two bators) but it was a big, fat "nope." She asked if I had any fluffy butts and I knew at that point that I had to come through!

How many chickens (roughly) and breeds do you have, Beth?

That is so sweet both of you helping the schools.

A friend of mine used to be a teacher (5 kids later) and hatched eggs and would send them home with children (parents had to okay it). She said the kids absoloutely loved it and most brought her pics the following fall of the chicks.

Oh I wish all could keep roosters

they keep the peace amongst the ladies and keep an eye on the sky

I have 48 breeders/adults and over 100 chicks right noW. It seems like one broody hatches out and the next day I have a different new one starting! I guess I run a happy hatching farm????? I have 5 Broodies as we speak! I breed 7 different breeds.

Thanks Daphne I love helping the kids so if you ever hear of a classroom locally in need I will gladly give them fertile eggs for. Free:)

I keep trying to look on the bright side - I got the gardens all planted with just a day to spare before the wet weather set in. But, man, come on! My established flock has barely poked their heads out of the coop for the past three days. But I just looked out there and all of this years chicks are out there standing in the rain - not an ounce of sense between them. Oh, well, the sun's bound to come out again, right? RIGHT?!

Hey, getting my chicks this weekend and hubby is finalizing tractor plans... going with a 7X5 frame, 2' tall wire covered bottom and then about another 2' tall coop the length of it across the top. I keep seeing photos with the food and water both hanging in the run portion of the tractor-don't the chickens need food/water in the coop too?

I think they should always have access to water. It's nice to have food inside too if you have room. I find if you have more than one food station there is less bickering.
