OK all you chixperts out there-can anyone help me out with this one? I have 5 chicks. The Easter Egger is a week older than the others-I'm starting to think maybe more-as she towers over the other 4 and she's about 3 1/2 weeks old, supposed to have hatched 5-11th. Then I have 4 other chicks, all hatched 5-18th (I got them 5-21st and they were all about the same size. The SLW and Barred Rock are about the same size and getting body feathers (they all have wing feathers and little stubby tails), the Light Brahma is smaller, and the Partridge Rock is close to 1/ 2th the size of the SLW and Barred Rock. I know different breeds grow to different sizes-but at not quite 3 weeks, should a Partridge rock be 1/2 the size of a Barred rock? Toffee (the partridge) peeps an awful lot but her vent is clean, her eyes are clear, and nothing seems wrong with her. She does seem to be a little more 'random' of a feeder-she'll spend more time pecking at the pine litter, the walls of the brooder, etc. while the other chicks go right to the food-but I see her eating plenty so I don't think she's starving or anything. If I put a hunk of grass with dirt in their, Toffee is the first one to find the worm and run off with it, and seems to have no trouble eating it. But the fact that she's 1/2 the size of her hatchmates, and peeps SOO much of the time concerns me... should I be worried, or just put this down to individual variations or something?
