Lookit lookit what I got guys! New little chickies!! They are 8 week old cochin bantams! They are too cute I haven't had chicks for so long, I missed their little peeps. There is a buff frizzle, a black frizzle, a birchen (I think, is the black and speckled one a birchen?) and a blue.

Congrats on your first egg Dobie!

The coop is looking great. The girls should love it!

1. Window Screens: You could hinge the screen frames at the top so they swing into the coop - allowing you to operate the stays to open and close the windows. Depending on the geometry, the stays may require holes or slots in the screens in order to operate. You can secure the screens at the bottom with a simple wood toggle that you can make from scrap wood.

2. Floor protection: As long as the floor is not constantly wet I don't think you will have a problem. Water is much harder on a wood floor than chicken poop!

3. Interior screening: I would suggest laying the screening on top of the joists if possible. This gives you better access to the joists from below if you have to run electirc wires/plumbing lines later on. I think closing off the top of the entryway to make a storage space won't have a significant affect on the overall ventilation. If you need the storage space, use it.

4. Poop boards: these could be supported by wooden or metal brackets. Use thin exterior-grade plywood (3/8" or 1/2") for the boards so they are not too heavy.

5. Nipple waterers: How will you keep the water lines from freezing? Is the coop heated? You could wrap the water lines in one of those ice-melter gutter wires if you have power in the coop. Be sure to protect the wires from pecking hens.

Thread killing post: I thought that was funny. Not a peep from anyone! I needed a laugh - I was in PA visiting my mom in the hospital - she underwent emergency open heart surgery. It was a very difficult surgery, on the table for 12 hours. It was however, sucessful, and she is slowly recovering now.

Happy Holidays! r
