If you want to see them, go for a hike in a wooded area. I'd expect they'd be there. They have been emerging and some climb right up into the trees, but some emerge on low plant life, and hang around in the low brush in big groups. I know at our neighbors nearby who have not many trees in their yards, they have only seen a few. Our chickens are eating them by the dozen! The good thing about them is they don't bite or anything, just buzz. So if you do find some, feel free to pick them up! I'm a weirdo so I don't mind holding them. If you flip them over it's pretty easy to tell males from females too.
