So... next year, I will be (Hopefully) hatching a chick out in my incubator. I will be using the wing sexing method.. has anyone used it with just 1 chick? Any comparison pics at a week old/ less? Thanks, Sam.

SAM Wing sexing only works on certain breeds,If you look at the wing,If the feathers are the same length you have a male but this will only work for a few days.Thier are a bunch of way you can sex chicks. You can wave a big brim hat over the chicks, The cockeral will stand up while the girls will curl up into a little ball. You can also pick them up by the scruff of the neck, The roos will pick thier feet up while the girls will dangle thier feet. My fav method that has proven to be as accurate as all the above is called THe Henny Penny Method. What you do is rub a copper penny on the bottom of the chick,then flip it in the air and let it land on the ground, Heads=boy Tails =girl. The only method that is 98% accurate is the vent method and you really need to know what you are doing or you could hurt the chick.

Hi all-

I am a first time chicken mama this year, we have 10 hens and 4 roosters. (Ack!) 3 of them are standard and 1 is a Buckeye Bantam.

I am thinking of getting rid of one or 2 of my big roosters as they are starting to beat the heck out of each other on a daily basis. I'm not sure they will all survive a winter cooped up much of the time.

I hand raised them and they are great when separated, but together, they are feathered hellions. When they are on the roost I can pick them all up, hold them, hand feed them etc. I've even bathed them. In the yard they clambor all over me for treats and take good care of the girls. They come when they are called, every time.

I'm terrified that they will end up on someone's table though, so I only want to give them if they will be pets.

If anyone is interested in a gorgeous Buff Orpington, or a brillantly feathered New Hampshire Red let me know. Both are about 5 months old.
I can send pictures, or if you're close, you are welcome to come take a look. I'm in Southern Fairfield County.

Okay col i will check it out. Im also applying for a poultry dealer's license thorugh the CT Dep of Ag. This year im selling chicks (check out my website) its sill under construction but i have the general information on it. So if you want to buy chicks local im your man!

Im going to look into setting up a swap!
