Wow - I'm so sorry. :( I'm in Bristol, but so far I haven't had any issues. Mine are locked in their coop at night which is located in my garage. A predator would either have to be able to open a window or a door. I do need to be less lax about locking them up at night though.
 
Sorry to hear about that,a fisher cat will do that they are known for removing the head but raccoons do that also.I saw a video the other day with a raccoon that repeatedly went into a chicken coop and decapitated 3 chicken,they are very vicious to birds.

1st egg today! Hens have been fed grain & soy free since I got them as 1day chicks in mid-May so I was starting to wonder if my experiment had gone awry. But, lovely large egg with a nice hard shell this afternoon! Of course the ladies had to upstage everyone with the best Christmas present ever. Haha

Yay!!! Congrats! I got my first marans egg about a week ago - it's exciting, isn't it?
