I think that's what I saw in my backyard earlier this summer. It was just before dawn and I couldn't see that good, just a shadow. I hope I'm wrong.

Horizontal here, too... chickens are fine but we had water coming in one of our windows all night. Internet is down, has been all day. I'm outside a Starbucks checking e-mail... lol... thank you starbucks for the free wifi... what would we do with out you? Its gotten way cold again and it is flurrying a bit right now as I type.

Howdy CT Chicken Peeps!!

Yes as some of you have heard I did have a devastating Mink attack in November 2012. I lost 52 breeder birds in 5 hours after Sandy blew the soffet off the back of my barn that I didn't see. Because it snowed the Mink was able to get up on the roof and into my main breeder barn. It killed so many birds in 5 hours and Minks are known as serial killers because they kill for the thrill more than the food. Well this one did it and did eat. He ate so much that he couldn't get out right away. I actually was away in OH at the Nationals for a show with some of my birds when this happened. My husband says to this day the gross scene was best not to be seen by me because even He could not stand the site of all the poor babies dead. So when I got the news I freaked out of course and because I am NPIP with the state of CT Dept of Ag I had my husband call them ASAP to notify them of the killing. At that time we did not know what had done it until DEEP showed up and saw this 1 1/2 inch space up in the soffet that it crawled through and we saw its tracks. We then set traps up for 2 weeks and finally caught the varmit. It was a 100% Mink and no not a fischer cat. Minks are found in water places and alot of times people mistaken them for beavers or otters. These little devils will squeeze their vertabra through the smallest of holes so all I can tell you is if you have any holes bigger than a inch you best cover it with hard ware cloth.

On a better note I have something to share with you all. Connecticut Breeders Poultry Society is having their annual poultry Show Sunday April 21 at Haddam Neck Fairgrounds. Please mark you calenders and try to attend. There will be alot to see and do.

Hope you all made it through the nasty storm and are all doing well. I see alot of new names on here since the summer
