Connecticut!

Wow! I was just outside with my girls and I was bent down talking to Agatha and a hawk swooped down inches from us. Everyone is fine, but I've never seen a hawk swoop with me right there less than a foot away. I'm not sure if it was seeing me that scared it or the fact that when it got close it realized that Agatha is almost as big as it was!

Very scary... the hawks are my last remaining problem... sigh

I saw a hawk two days ago take down a bird. Ripped it open quickly in my yard with no remorse lol. Cool thing to see though.

For those of you whole don't know what molasses is, its a by-product of processing sugar cane. Research has shown that molasses helps promotes the healing of wounds and also binds with toxins in the colon to fight against colon cancer and its less calories than sugar. Molasses is alson an excellent source of the following: iron, calcium, copper, manganese, and potassium. I find that it’s both the sugar and potassium that promotes the thirst. I use unsulphured molasses is the thickest and darkest of the different kinds on the market, and has the most vitamins and minerals. I’m also allergic to Sulfates so that’s another reason I don’t use it. The other two important minerals that really help during stressful winter months in the molasses is the calcium which is good for healthy bones but, also it helps with muscles contracting properly including the heart. And the manganese helps rid the body of free radicals in the colon and can help increase their energy level during the winter cold months. The one thing to remember is too much of a good thing is NOT good. Too much Iron intake in poultry is not good. So only do the 1-2 TB per gallon one time per week. I also use the ACV with the mother in it once a week. That helps provide the system with an increase of vitamin C and helps rid the colon of bad bacteria. Hope this helps!!

Beth, I didn't realize hydration was so important in the winter. This is the kind of genius insider information I want to gain from community like this. Why the molasses? Does it just make the water more enticing by adding sweet flavor? The simple idea of bringing in the bowls at night to warm and clean is smart. I won't have electricity to my coop so I will have to operate off of a similar plan.

Do share! Are you going to be showing much this season, or did your predator set back mess that up too much? Tell me you didn't loose that gorgeous bantam cochin roo in your avatar.

You know what!!! My grand champion boy in my Avatar Chong lived!!!!! He was one of 7 that lived the attack that day in the cochin and silkie barn. Phew!! And I say that not because he was a show champion but, because he's my best buddy! I love him and he is so intune with me when I'm down he does things to cheer me up. I made him a permanant spot up on the self and he will live here to the day he departs naturally
I do plan on showing some but, not as many as I used to since I lost alot of the show and breeder birds that day
Here is a few pic's If I can get them loaded on here....
