Connecticut!

Welcome!!!! And nice to see some people near my neck of the woods I am a couple of towns over in simsbury, also have an Icelandic.I had four until a week ago when something swept through my flock and they died, they were only 3 months old and my favorite ones, they were very friendly and I hatched them, never had them before so was looking forward to see how they turned out and were all different colors.

Yes, you are very close. So far my Icelandics are very colorful, they're almost 12 weeks old now.

I've been doing some searching around in Northwestern, CT for real estate just to see whats out there and every house I end up clicking on to look more into is in Torrington. Anyone from there and know what the laws are as far as chickens go?

I'm not sure what the laws are in Torrington. The only thing I could find was on the website for the department of planning and zoning, which stated the following definitions:

Farm - a lot with a minimum area of 3 acres that is used for the raising of plants or farm animals.

Farm Animal - any animal that is customarily kept in a barn, stable, coop, or pen. Farm animals include, but are not limited to, horses, cattle, sheep, geese, chickens, ducks, pigs, and llamas.

I suggest calling them. Torrington is considered a city.

Thanks, everything I'm looking is 3+ acres. Don't want anything less as I see CT is a toughy when it comes to how much land you need to have a single animal - ridiculous! LOL

It's funny, but I'm one town over, and all I need is 1.5 acres for my first animal, and .5 acres more for each additional.

But is that 1.5 for one chicken or just one type of animal so you can have 10 chickens on that 1.5?

I have an acre out here but I also live in the sticks. My next neighbor is a mile+ down the road. I have one across the street that lives in an old renovated barn that sits on 22+ acres. She can have whatever she wants. At the moment I have 2 rabbits, 3 ducks, and 12 chickens. And those are only the outdoor pets. LOL

Hello
we wanted to share pictures of our new coops, we got them from Chad & his construction crew out of Hamden (if you go there, make sure to look at the Eagle’s nests by WB Mason), They have many different styles and sizes to choose from or they can custom make your coop. All coops are veterinarian approved designs.
And unlike other companies that want the money up front and make you wait a
month or more for the coop you can pay Chad when the coop is delivered or when you pick up, coops are built to fit in a full sized pickup bed, and depending on the coop they take 1-2 weeks to build, they can also deliver the coop for a fee

our coops being delivered!!

This coop holds 6-9 birds, with 3 nest boxes and roost, there are 3 windows
plus ventilation on the top of the coop (cost $1,000 which is very reasonable!)

This coop holds 4 birds, has 2 nest boxes and roost and cost $450.00

Here are the guys with our rooster, Benny, you can reach Chad at 203-627-3410

Here is another coop they have on Craig’s list
