Connecticut!

We added lights and went from a low of 8 eggs to up to 2 dozen a day! I think they're set to go on from 5:30-8:00am and then 4:00-9:30pm.

Did you open that first egg yet? Sorta looks like a double-yoker.

Susan

My egg? Just one yolk :)

I don't use supplemental light either

Oh man! Hope your next eggs make it all the way to the kitchen before getting cracked! Congrats on your ladies laying!

Looked in the nest on Saturday and there was just a yolk with no shell

then looked in the coop to clean up a little and there was a broken eggshell with no yolk

. Not really sure what happened there. Then yesterday (Sunday) I found two intact, unfrozen eggs in the coop. Not sure why they laid the first 3 in the nest and then the last two in the coop. But yes, I managed to get both eggs in to the house without any breakage! Wife says I need to invest in an egg basket for transportation.

Has anyone here raised turkeys for meat?  I'm contemplating it for next year.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted and had about two months worth of posts to catch up on. Lots of new faces around here....welcome.

LSB in Bethany has been great. Haven't had to go to north haven agway since they opened although ithey were very nice.

I'm contemplating turkey's this upcoming spring as well and curious as to the response. Does anyone know if turkeys are very noisy? Are there certain breeds that are better for eating?

How's everyones chickens doing in this cold there saying below zero by this weekend, had to increase the wattage on my outside water heater 60watts wasn't cutting it anymore.

I'm not looking forward to sub zero coming later this week. I had one cracked egg today when it was in the teens. I can't get them until after work unfortunately. They're still edible when cracked/frozen, you just need to eat them the same day.
